    Summary

    About the Position: Place of duty is Ft. Meade, MD, 0720-1620 Monday through Friday. You will diagnose and treat various dental/oral conditions within the scope of General Dentistry. This includes, but not limited, to endodontics, prosthodontics, restorative, orofacial pain, oral pathology, and oral surgery. In addition, duties include administrative duties, and complying with organizational training requirements.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide direct dental patient care for Service Members in the field of general dentistry in a military setting.
    • Provide dental care for medically compromised patients, if necessary, for Wounded Warriors (i.e., advanced post-dental school training such as AEGD or GPR or equivalent experience).
    • Provide care in all areas of general dentistry, interacting with military, civilians, and medical professionals positively and respectfully in a military clinic.
    • Work within the confines of military clinic local policies.
    • Perform using a very highly developed diagnostic skill in administering treatment and procedures at the level of a specialist in restorative dentistry.
    • Perform the full range of general dentistry restorative and preventive procedures on the most complex cases.
    • Serve as the primary care manager for dental issues, with the goal of maximizing a patient's dental health and maintaining the highest possible dental readiness for active duty personnel.
    • Diagnose and treat various dental/oral conditions within the scope of General Dentistry i.e. endodontics, prosthodontics, restorative, orofacial pain, oral pathology, and oral surgery.

    • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
    • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
    • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
    • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
    • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
    • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

    Basic Requirement for Dentist (General Practice-Dentistry)

    Degree: A Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (external link) (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (external link) (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

    Licensure: Must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing all facets of general dentistry; placement of amalgam and composite restorations; performing endodontic procedures (i.e. root canal therapy); performing oral surgery procedures (to include, but not limited to removal of erupted and unerupted teeth, residual root tips); performing prosthetic work to replace missing teeth and restore compromised teeth; and performing comprehensive dental examinations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GP-13).

    Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
