    About the Position:
    As a High Voltage Electrician Supervisor, you will exercise supervisory responsibility for control over work operations involving approximately 10-12 subordinate workers. You will assign specific tasks or projects of relatively short duration (i.e., a few hours to one or two days) and/or oversees incumbents day-to-day direction of a well established routine operation.

    Responsibilities

    • Serves as assistant to Foreman over the Distribution and Equipment Unit exercising supervisory responsibility for control over work operations.
    • As senior journeyman, performing the most complex electrical troubleshooting, maintenance, inspection, diagnosis, repair, overhaul, and installation of high voltage systems and equipment pertinent to the water treatment and distribution system.
    • Test circuits to ensure they are complete and correct after installing electrical wiring and components.

    • Inspect high-voltage distribution systems.
    • Plans distribution of work to subordinates on a day to day or project to project basis within the instructions and time limits provided.
    • Schedules leave and approves short periods of leave for subordinates.

    • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
    • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
    • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
    • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
    • Possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions.
    • Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
    • This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization.
    • Position is "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
    • This position requires a confined space certification.
    • This position requires the wearing of a uniform and protective clothing and gear.
    • This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs.
    • Work is conducted both inside and outside, occasional work in closed quarters and subject to injuries related to lifting, cuts, bruises, shock and falls.
    • You may be expected to travel up to 10% of the time.
    • This position is subject to a two year probationary period unless requirements have been previously met.

    There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

    Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a High Voltage Electrician Supervisor without more than normal supervision. Ability to Lead or Supervise include: (1) Establishing deadlines and priorities, (2) Reviewing work performed by subordinate staff such as installing and repairing new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, fixtures and controls for efficiency, and (3) Scheduling, approving and denying leave of subordinate staff. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

    To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.

    Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort is exerted while working on poles, at ground level, in trenches, or manholes. Work requires bending stooping, climbing, and standing for long periods. Coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body is needed in installing, repairing, and testing electrical equipment. Required to lift items weighing up to 40 pounds and on occasion more.

    Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Is exposed to danger from explosions of equipment and cables in manholes and vaults, as well as danger form high voltage electrical shock, burns from solder, broken bones, cuts, and bruises. Is exposed to heat and noise when working in substations or power-generating facilities, to extremes of weather when working outdoors, and to unpleasant odors and wet slippery surfaces when working in manholes and other underground structures as well as sedimentation basins. Is subject to electrical burns while working around high voltage electrical lines, broken bones from falls from scaffolding, ladders, poles, and strains from awkward work positions. Is exposed to chemicals such as insulating
    oil from transformers and oil switches. May have to work in confined spaces for long periods of time.

    Employee must be physically able to readily able to access and exit manholes as small as 20" in diameter and other small entryways. Because some of the work is performed in enclosed spaces, employees must be capable of working without fear in such areas.
