The Deputy Director ensures the safe and efficient utilization of the National Airspace System (NAS); manages the acquisition and sustainment of air traffic systems, platforms and capabilities; develops policies, technical standards, and procedures for assigned terminal, en route and oceanic systems; manages daily and future capabilities and operations, real-time operational measures, organizational performance metrics, and information delivery to decision makers through over 700 civilian employees, 2,500 contract staff and 200 vendors.
- Oversees FAA Air Traffic Systems acquisition programs and projects, the development and implementation of modernization efforts on Capital Improvement Plan programs and administrative and mission support systems, ensuring that the capabilities are delivered on time, on budget and to specification.
- Advises on requirements for programs providing Air Traffic Systems platforms and capabilities including En Route Automation Modernization (ERAM), Terminal Automation Modernization and Replacement (TAMR), Advanced Technologies and Oceanic Procedures (ATOP), Decision Support Programs such as Terminal Flight Data Manager (TFDM) and Traffic Flow Management System (TFMS), and FAA Mission Support programs
- Oversees process change requests and development of national ATO policies, standards, and procedures regarding the implementation and use of air traffic management systems, decision support systems, and second level engineering services for automation systems within ATO for approximately 35,000 employees.
- Formulates, presents, defends and executes a Facilities and Equipment budget of approximately $300M annually to support the acquisition and implementation of platforms and technologies and an Operations budget of approximately $250 million annually to support operational NAS and mission support engineering of automation systems, and business solutions/infrastructure programs.
