    Summary

    This job opportunity is for a Surface Maintenance Repairer position, position description D1193000, within the FMS 3 of the New Jersey Army National Guard. This vacancy announcement is a Title 32, Excepted Service position.

    The purpose of this position is to perform limited diagnosis, routine repairs, and maintenance on combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment. May assist higher graded mechanics in the performance of maintenance duties.

    Responsibilities

    As a Surface Maintenance Repairer, WG-5801-08 you may be expected to accomplish the following:

    • Perform limited diagnosis, routine repairs and maintenance on heavy-duty mobile equipment, combat, tactical, and automotive vehicles
    • Perform limited diagnoses to determine the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks
    • Independently perform routine repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations
    • Conduct limited readiness and repair inspections on vehicles and associated equipment supported by the activity
    • Maintain supply documents, receipts, and inventory

    Areas of Consideration:

    • Areas I: Open to Permanent, (does not include Temporary) on-board, Title 32 Technicians of the NJ National Guard
    • Areas II: Open to Permanent, (does not include Temporary) on-board, Title 32 and Title 5 Employees of the NJ National Guard
    • Areas III: Open to New Jersey National Guard members (This includes Army and Air)

    Military Grades: E-3 to E-7

    Compatible Military Assignments: CMF: 88, 91
    Selectee will have two (2) years to obtain the required MOS.

    Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position

    Pre-Placement Physical: A pre-placement physical will be required for anyone selected for this position. Placement into the position will not be made until results are received.

    Additional Employment Requirements:
    • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
    • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
    • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
    • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
    • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license

    Qualifications

    General Experience
    Must have the following experiences:
    • Demonstrating knowledge of equipment
    • Preventative maintenance tasks
    • Using common tools and equipment
    Specialized Experience
    Must have 12 months of the following experiences:
    • Using common hand and power tools
    • Using testing and measurement devices
    • Removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories
    • Applying mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory to vehicles
    • Replacing, fitting, installing, and making adjustments
    • Understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems
    • Reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics
