    Responsibilities

    As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, WS-5801-13, you may be expected to accomplish the following:

    • Plan and establish overall leave schedules
    • Ensure the employees wear appropriate safety equipment
    • Redirect individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work
    • Investigate work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity and determines causes
    • Prepare and participate in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, and command support exercises

    Areas of Consideration:

    • Areas I: Open to Permanent, (does not include Temporary) on-board, Title 32 Technicians of the NJ National Guard
    NOTE: If the individual selected is currently on a Title 10 or Title 32 tour no action can be taken until he/she is released from tour

    Military Grades: W-1 to CW-4

    Compatible Military Assignments: WOBR 91
    Selectee will have two (2) years to obtain the required WOBR.

    Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position

    Additional Employment Requirements:
    • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
    • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
    • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
    • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
    • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license

    GENERAL EXPERIENCE
    Must have the following experience(s):
    • Organizing assignments for subordinates
    • Estimating material and manpower needs for specific jobs
    • Explain manuals and work procedures to subordinates
    • Preparing production records, work records and reports
    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE
    • Diagnosing, repairing, overhauling, and modifying more complex vehicles, equipment, and more complicated systems
    • Using diagnostic equipment
    • Solving unusually complex maintenance and repair problem
    • Testing, inspecting, and evaluating the work performed on vehicles, equipment and systems
    In addition to the experience above, you must also have the following experiences:
    • Planning, directing, and organizing work assignments for lower grade personnel
    • Reviewing work requirements and establishing priorities to meet deadlines
    • Supervising and/or communicating general supervisory concepts, and shop processes
    • Adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations
