    Summary

    This position is located in the Cash Management Office (CMO) within the Accounting Operations Department (AO) of the Office of Finance & Accounting (OF&A) at the Smithsonian Institution in Arlington, VA. The employee processes financial data, uses automated financial systems to review, verify, and validate cash deposits, and prepares financial reports.

    Responsibilities

    Process cash collections data including validations and corrections of financial transactions and resolve issues/problems involving data entry functions and tasks.

    Processes payments using a variety of automated applications (bank wire transfers, debit cards, US Treasury payments, bank checks, etc.).

    Effects Intra-government Payment Collection System (IPAC) transactions and corresponding ERP entries; applies cash receipts to accounts receivable; and ensures transactions are posted and closed in ERP timely.

    Qualifications

    Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-6 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system.  For this position Specialized experience is defined as reviewing, verifying, and validating bank deposits including credit card transactions.

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

    Or Education: Two years of graduate education above a bachelor's degree in a field of study directly related to the position. As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

    How You Will Be Evaluated

    Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above.  The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria:

    1. Knowledge of automated financial systems, document management systems and data entry procedures.
    2. Knowledge of procedures involved in carrying out accounting support work.
    3. Knowledge of commercial and government banking; cash management; and US Treasury policies and procedures.
