    This position is located with Indian Affairs, Ofc. of Justice Services (OJS) in Washington, D.C.
    BIA is searching for an individual to serve as Supv. Crim. Investigator (Asst. Dep. Director) in the management of OJS. Do you have experience developing work plans and managing programs to include uniformed law enf., internal affairs, detention, support services, drug enf., tribal courts, and a Training Academy?     Responsibilities

    • Directly supervises subordinates, project team leaders and contractors. Conducts official performance reviews. Makes or approves selections. Hears and resolves group grievance. Reviews and approves serious disciplinary actions.
    • Participates in planning sessions at top management levels of the Bureau and Department developing goals and objectives in budge, organization and human resources development.
    • Assists in conducting and coordinating with law enforcement agencies, extremely sensitive inquires and investigations.
    • Provide counsel, advice and recommendations to the OJS Director on various matters regarding operations and management.
    • Assists in development and implementation policy for Indian Country law enforcement programs within the Districts.
    • Develops, negotiates and executes formal written agreements for each division between multiple Federal agencies that will enhance Indian country law enforcement operations.
    • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with law enforcement and intelligence agencies, serving as the liaison and coordinator to external contacts on issues related to Indian country law enforcement.

    • Prior law enforcement experience, as gained by substantial service in a primary law enforcement officer position, or equivalent experience outside the Federal government, is a mandatory prerequisite for incumbents of this position.
    • Telework: Indian Affairs has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.

    Qualifications

    GS-15:
    To qualify for the GS-15 grade level, you must have at least one year specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 level managing and supervising uniformed police officers and criminal investigators involved with operations; planning, organizing, and administering activities for a regional or national law enforcement organization to include management of human and financial resources; representing an organization among different jurisdictions; and formulating and implementing law enforcement policies and guidelines.

    FIREARMS REQUIREMENT: This position requires that the incumbent meet initial and continuing qualifications in the use of firearms as outlined in the Gun Control Act of 1968, amended by the Lautenberg Amendment of 1996. An applicant whose background includes any of the following will be ineligible for consideration: 1) convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment exceeding one year; 2) has any outstanding warrants or is a fugitive from justice; 3) unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance; 4) adjudicated as a mental defective or has been committed to a mental institution; 5) illegally or unlawfully in the United States; 6) renounced U. S. citizenship; 7) subject to a court-ordered restraining order from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child; or 8) convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.

    TRAINING REQUIREMENT: Must have attended and successfully completed a federal basic Criminal Investigator Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, FBI or DEA.

    MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties of this position requires moderate to arduous physical exertion involving walking and standing, use of firearms, and exposure to inclement weather. Manual dexterity with comparatively free motion of finger, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, and knee joints is required. Arms, hands, legs, and feet must be sufficiently intact and functioning in order that applicants may perform the duties satisfactorily. Sufficiently good vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required to perform duties satisfactorily. Near vision, corrective lenses permitted, must be sufficient to read printed material the size of typewritten characters. Hearing loss, as measured by an audiometer, must not exceed 35 decibels at 1000, 2000, and 3000 Hz levels. Since the duties of these positions are exacting and responsible, and involve activities under trying conditions, applicants must possess emotional and mental stability. Any physical condition that would cause the applicant to be a hazard too himself/herself, or others is disqualifying.

    This is a supervisory position. Under provision of the Civil Service Reform Act, first-time supervisors are required to serve a one year supervisory probationary period before their appointment becomes final.
