    Responsibilities

    • Diagnoses animal health problems; vaccinates against diseases such as distemper and rabies; medicates animals suffering from infections or illnesses; treats and dresses wounds, seat fractures; performs surgery; and advise owners about animal feeding
    • Maintains records in accordance with local and command policy.
    • Provides direction and oversight to Animal Health Assistants with regards to veterinary nursing skills, veterinary medical standards, and animal care.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Performs professional veterinary work that involves the investigation, examination, treatment, and control of animals.
    • Issues health certificates.
    • Performs and interprets laboratory findings. Maintains health records and prepares reports as necessary

    • Ability to obtain/renew United States Department of Agriculture/Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation within first 60-days of employment.
    • Ability to work occasional Saturdays for special events - as needed by management.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).
    Transcripts are required at the time of application. Unofficial transcripts can be used at time of application to validate qualification requirements, however, Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire.
    • Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state).
    Best Qualified Criteria:
    • Possess active United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation.
    • Ability to lift 40 lbs and long periods of standing, restraining, kneeling, reaching and sitting, etc.

    Become a part of the Army's Global Veterinary Medical Practice (GVMP) which operates veterinary treatment facilities (VTFs) on most military installations across all services. Your work will be dedicated to pet health within the military community and in support of the United States Army Medical Command.
