The primary purpose of this position is to serve as an Operations Research Analyst performing professional and scientific work requiring systematic, critical, intensive investigation into a subject in order to develop the principles, criteria, methods, and data to be used in support of projects or problem solving studies.
- Working under the guidance of senior analyst(s), applies a range of analytical, mathematical, and/or statistical theories, principles, and practices to plan, coordinate, and execute segments of complex studies.
- Compiles, organizes, and analyzes data/information to find solutions to problems requiring the use of a broad range of established operations research methods and techniques.
- Participates in special initiatives, studies, and projects.
- Attends meetings, conferences, briefings, and seminars related to program planning.
- Keeps abreast of emerging technologies and professional development to remain current in the field and for application to work assignments.

A degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college-level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
GS-05: Applicants who meet the basic requirements described in the individual occupational requirements are fully qualified for the specified entry grade.
GS-07: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience includes working closely with other Operations Research analysts to use mathematical and statistical techniques, and innovative efforts to develop new cost models address solutions to problems that may totally lack in precedent. Assist in a broad range of weapons system cost related equipment, and force structures.
1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
GS-09: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-07 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized includes performing developmental assignments in support of projects assigned to higher level analysts. Performs specific and related tasks that selected to orient employee in the practical application of basic occupational techniques, such as conducting analytical investigations using scientific methodology and problem solving for matters of a factual nature.
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree
GS-11: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-09 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience includes independently performing recurring assignments of limited difficulty and complexity in support of projects assigned to higher graded analysts. General operations research assignments for portions of a project or study consisting of a series of interrelated task or problems.
3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
GS-12: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience include, under guidance of senior analysis(s), applies a range of analytical, mathematical, and/or statistical theories, principles, and practices to plan, coordinate, and execute segments of complex studies.
GS-13: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-12 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. An example of specialized experience includes extracting& organizing raw cost data under general direction from the team leader, conducting basic mathematical analysis of programs information, & assisting in the collection, developmental and implementation of cost related information.
GS-14: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience includes a broad range of operations research analysis assignments entailing unique problems, creativity, innovative use of techniques, advanced approaches, and/or new technologies. Utilizes scientific inquiry independent development of mathematical models and computer programs to evaluate, interpret, & analyze progress implementation diversity priorities identified in the Air Force Diversity Strategic Roadmap.
GS-15: Successfully completed 1 year of specialized experience at the GS-14 grade level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service. Examples of creditable specialized experience includes applying scientific and analytical techniques to define, quantify, and evaluate feasibility of assigned projects, proposals, reports, studies or problems. A consultant and Air Force level technical expert to senior subject matter specialists and/or agency official program operations.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Professional knowledge of the principles, concepts and practices of operations research analysis to apply scientific methods and techniques to analyze system, processes, and/or operational problems and procedures.
2. Knowledge of mathematics and analysis to perform studies and prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence to communicate recommendations/conclusion clearly. 3. Ability to participate effectively on study teams and originate new ideas, projects, and methodologies.
4. Knowledge and mastery of a broad range of methods and techniques used in classical and modern advanced operations research studies and possession of analytical abilities.
