You will serve as a Utility Systems Operator in the Utilities Energy Management Branch of NAVAL FAC ENGINEERING CMD WASH assigned to the Public Works Department at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.Learn more about this agency
- You will start, operate, adjust, and stop single or multiple fuel power boilers fueled by natural gas, fuel oil or a combination of fuesl and auxiliary pollution control equipment in high temperature hot water or steam plant.
- You will perform various routine and emergency operational and preventative mainteneace on boiler, chiller, auxiliary and pollution control equipment.
- You will collect water samples and tests high temperature hot water, water softeners, feed water, chilled water, condenser water and condensate using standard chemical tests.
- You will obeserve flow meters and charts to determine and record how much high temperature and chilled water is being produced.

Frequently works in confined areas in and around boilers, chillers, cooling towers and support equipment; i.e., auxiliary and pollution control equipment. Work requires moderate to strenuous physical effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, bending and crouching.
Frequently lifts and carries parts and chemical supplies weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted and occasionally items weighing over 50 pounds with assistance of other workers or weight handling equipment.
Employee normal works indoors. Occasionally works outside. When working outside is subject to prevailing weather conditions and works from catwalks and ladders. Employee is subject to high temperatures, constant noise, rotating equipment, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes in the work area. Subject to cuts and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment and burns from acids, caustics, hot water, steam and contact with pipes and boilers.
The work may require the use of a motor vehicle.
Required to work one of three shifts on a fixed or rotating schedule, or uncommon tour of duty including weekends and holidays.
Required to work overtime whenever necessary.
Required to maintain fit testing for full-face respirator.
Perform other work as assigned by supervisor or higher-level employee.
