Successful applicants are placed in a dynamic 1 year developmental program with the potential to lead to a civil service career in the Federal Government. At the successful conclusion of this program, you may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to a Federal career or career-conditional position.
- Reviews and evaluates lower level investigations to ensure they meet pertinent National Background Investigations Bureau Standards, OPM case requirements and quality standards.
- Researches, collects and compiles minor information to assist other NBIB staff and investigative contractors address and improve processing for other priority workloads and investigative elements.
- Provides administrative assistance to staff in delivering timely feedback to other NBIB elements regarding the quality of Federal and Contractor investigative work.
- Assembles information in order to assist investigative personnel with providing feedback to customer agencies, Federal, and Contractor staff.
- Conducts research to identify inconsistencies and/or discrepancies during case processing and collects information for program evaluation and contractor performance.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

QualificationsFor the GS 5: You must have at least one year of experience that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-4 level in the Federal Service, such as experience that included providing clerical support to an organization by maintaining files; reviewing and preparing correspondence; using databases; answering and directing telephone calls to the appropriate office; plan and organize work, maintaining security of sensitive information, reviewing documents for accuracy, accurately entering information into a database.
Successfully completed four years of post-high-school education.
A combination of appropriate specialized experience and education.
To meet the Recent Graduate Program Eligibility requirements, you must have obtained a qualifying Associates, Bachelor's, Master's, Professional, Doctorate, Vocational or Technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution, within the previous 2 years.
All Education must be accredited by an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications (particularly positions with a positive education requirement.) PROGRAM COMPLETION AND CONVERSION ELIGIBILITY:
Program participants may be converted, without a break in service, to a term, career or career conditional appointment upon completion of program requirements.
To be eligible for conversion, Recent Graduates must:
- Complete one continuous year of work experience acquired through a Recent Graduate Program
- Complete 40 hours of formal interactive training
- Meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Recent Graduate will be converted
- Meet any agency-specific requirements specified in the Participant's Agreement
- Demonstrate successful job performance that results in a rating of record of at least Fully Successful and a recommendation for conversion by the first level supervisor.
