    Summary

    The Area of Consideration for this vacancy announcement is within the commuting area of Ft Eustis, VA. NOTE: Local commuting area is a radius of 50 miles of Ft Eustis, VA. In addition, you are eligible if you live outside of this radius and are able to commute to work on a daily/as needed basis, or you are able to relocate yourself on your own expenses (must be able to be present for work within 2 weeks of selection).

    This position is located at the Fort Eustis Veterinary Treatment Facility.

    Responsibilities

    • Diagnoses animal health problems; vaccinates against diseases such as distemper and rabies; medicates animals suffering from infections or illnesses; treats and dresses wounds, seat fractures; performs surgery; and advise owners about animal feeding
    • Maintains records in accordance with local and command policy.
    • Provides direction and oversight to Animal Health Assistants with regards to veterinary nursing skills, veterinary medical standards, and animal care.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
    • Performs professional veterinary work that involves the investigation, examination, treatment, and control of animals.
    • Issues health certificates.
    • Performs and interprets laboratory findings. Maintains health records and prepares reports as necessary

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements:
    1. Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).
    2. Possess a state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state).
    3. Ability to lift 40lbs and endure long periods of standing, restraining, kneeling, reaching and sitting, etc.

    Highly Preferred:
    1. Active United States Department of Agriculture/ Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (USDA/APHIS) accreditation.

    Education

    • Possess a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA).
    • Possess a valid unrestricted state license to practice veterinary medicine (may be a valid state license from any US state).
    • Official transcripts must be provided prior to time of hire. Unofficial college/university transcripts may be uploaded for initial qualification screening.

    Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed
    equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.


    Additional information

    Salary is pro-rated based on a 40 hour work week. Hourly salary range is $35.94 to $43.12.

    How You Will Be Evaluated

    There will be weekly cut-off dates in which applicants will be referred to the Selecting Official for consideration until the position is filled. Once the position is filled the announcement will be closed. The first cut-off date will be November 09, 2018 and every Wednesday thereafter.
