    About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.

    Responsibilities

    You will conduct research and analysis of strategic counter terrorism issues for the Combating Terrorism Center (CTC) at the US Military Academy, an accredited 4-year undergraduate college. Applicants must demonstrate confidence in their public speaking and teaching skills. You will be expected to teach classes to the cadets which are offered in the CTC's Terrorism Studies Program. You may also be expected to teach in the Practitioner Education Program to provide government personnel with the education and intellectual tools they need to understand and combat terrorist threats.

    Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

    This is a 13 month term appointment in the excepted service, with employment to begin in April and July of 2019. Appointments may be extended at the departments discretion. As a term employee you will be eligible for medical insurance, life insurance, retirement dental and vision. You will be eligible to earn annual leave and sick leave.

    Qualification Requirements: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.

    Selective Placement Factors/Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSA's): Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1) academic accomplishment (a Master's degree preferred or higher, that includes major study in security studies, political science, public policy, sociology, or closely related field); 2) research accomplishments in her/his respective discipline relevant to political violence; 3) communication skills; 4) teaching experience.

    Experience working in an intelligence or interagency environment within the counter terrorism field is highly preferred.
