The incumbent for this position serves as the principal scientific leader for ARI's Personnel Research Portfolio. ARI's mission is to drive scientific innovation to enable the Army to acquire, develop, employ, and retain professional Soldiers and enhance personnel readiness. As Senior Research Scientist (SRS), the incumbent is a leading expert in the field of personnel psychology, with significant experience in test development and validation, psychometrics, statistical analyses and research methods employed within the behavioral and social sciences, and a broad array of personnel interventions to improve Soldier job performance. The SRS will guide research and development and create new understanding in important research areas related to job performance and the Soldier/career lifecycle. Research areas include Soldier accessions, testing, and assessment; job analysis; applications of data science to personnel psychology; job performance and criterion development; Soldier assignment and career planning; and leader development and training. The SRS will provide leadership in developing innovative approaches to advance personnel science and improve Soldier job performance. The SRS also provides scientific advice to the Director, ARI on the scientific direction of ARI's complex, multiyear basic and applied research programs. The SRS independently consults and collaborates with Army scientific leaders and serves as a scientific expert on major national and international committees, advisory groups, panels, and boards. The incumbent's immediate supervisor is the SES Director, United States Army Research Institute for the Behavioral and Social Sciences (ARI). Supervision is characterized by (1) a degree of confidence in and reliance on the incumbent's productivity, competence, and judgment such that there is an unusual level of support for his/her recommendations; (2) responsibility/delegation of responsibility for interpretations, recommendations, and conclusions having a major impact on matters of great urgency and significance are furnished to other agencies and the professional community without reference to or knowledge of higher authority; (3) a supervisory relationship that reflects recognition of the researcher both as a leading technical authority in his/her field and as a distinguished scientist, with reports and papers published as well as presentations made to professional groups.
