This position is located in the Legal Division, Supervision and Legislation Branch, Enforcement Section, of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support in connection with administrative hearings, appeals, litigation, advisory services, and/or policy formulation.

- Conducts legal research using library references, files, corporate records, private and governmental studies, computer databases, and other pertinent sources to supply needed legal or factual information for inclusion in memoranda, directives and pleadings.
- Analyzes data, develops recommendations and justifications for the attorneys for use in interpretation and advisory requests, or in complex litigation cases.
- Prepares legal memoranda, pleadings and other documents in response to requests for information relating to the specialty areas of the Enforcement Section. Examples include the areas of FDIC rules and regulations, litigation, alternative dispute resolutions, Freedom of Information Act requests, Congressional inquiries, federal banking laws, resolutions of failed banks, management reports and statistical data.
- Organizes and maintains pleadings, evidentiary documents and other materials, including electronically stored information (ESI), and matter files for the Enforcement Section.
- Develops, tracks and maintains databases and prepares various case status reports for cases in litigation. Develops statistics and charts, conducts analyses and prepares graphs and tables to illustrate results. May encode substantive case materials for entry into computer, retrieves and analyses materials through data searches.
Occasional travel - Occasional overnight travel may be required.

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 9 level in the Federal service.
Specialized experience includes paralegal or legal work performing litigation, document control, discovery, and the organization and maintenance of electronically stored information (ESI) through the use of software programs. Examples include analyzing and evaluating case files to identify factual issues; providing litigation support by organizing documents, exhibits, and ESI; drafting subpoenas; and preparing pleadings.
Education may be substituted for experience in qualifying for this position. If qualifying based on education, applicant must possess: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related

- Ability to use a law library for legal research and to use automated legal research services such as Westlaw and Lexis/Nexus and the Division’s automated private files.
- Knowledge of legal principles, concepts, and methodology of legal research and analysis, and the ability to apply this knowledge in the interpretation of the applicable laws and case precedents.
- Ability to interpret, explain and present, in writing, relevant findings and conclusions using appropriate language, legal reasoning and organization of facts and ideas; and to assist in case preparation, FOIA and congressional responses, policy formulation and the development of administrative and legal responses and reports.
- Ability to independently organize and maintain pleadings, evidentiary documents and other materials, including ESI.
- Knowledge of and ability to effectively use word processing, computer graphics, spreadsheet and internal and commercial database programs such as Word, Access and Excel, and the Advance Legal Information System (ALIS) to develop, monitor and maintain computer databases and statistical information and reports for the Section.
