Participates in drug monitoring therapy through direct patient care involvement, in consultation with primary physician, provides expertise in drug therapy, proper drug utilization, dosages, routes and methods of administration, adverse effects and interactions and assist in the evaluation of individual patient drug therapy. Inpatient/Outpatient orders are checked to include patient information, correct medication dose, route and frequency of administration. Orders are checked for patient's allergies, drug interactions, incompatibilities, duplication and priority. Identifies, interprets and resolves prescribing and dispensing issues, including pharmacy therapeutics and the formulary. Dispenses controlled substances with accuracy according to current policies and procedures for inpatients and outpatients.
Work Schedule: Incumbent will be assigned to work rotating shifts including Weekends and Holidays. Required to work 2nd Shift-From 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm or 3rd Shift-From 11:00 pm to 7:00 am. Required to be on Call. Main Shift: 2nd & 3rd Shift.

Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm. D.) degree. Licensure: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
English Language Proficiency. Must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, small parts, or driving an automobile, etc. Wearing of a respirator may be required at times in the performance of the duties of this position. As a result, employees assigned to these duties cannot have facial hair or any condition that interferes with the face to face piece seal or valve function of the respirator.
Applicants must have at least one(1) year of creditable experience equivalent to GS-12 grade level which is directly related to the position to be filled, OR completion of a 6 year Pharm. D. or formal post-baccalaureate (MS., Pharm D., Ph. D. Hospital oriented degree program recognized by ACPE.To be creditable, the experience must have required the use of knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics associated with current professional pharmacy practice. Experience is only creditable if it is post-licensure experience as a professional pharmacist directly related to the position to be filled.

In addition to the experience requirement stated above, Pharmacists at this grade level must demonstrate the following KSAs:
1. Knowledge of professional pharmacy practice.
2. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to both patients and health care staff.
3. Knowledge of laws, regulations, and accreditation standards related to the distribution and control of scheduled and non-scheduled drugs and pharmacy security.
4. Skill in monitoring and assessing the outcome of drugs therapies, including physical assessment and interpretation of laboratory and other diagnostic parameters.
