As an Instructor / Assistant Professor / Associate Professor you will: develop, organize, and implement substantive and meaningful education programs in human subject research ethics, regulatory compliance, responsible conduct of research, and research integrity for investigators engaged in or supporting human subject research. You will teach in one of the 13 departments at the Academy and be responsible to the Institutional Official (IO) and the IO's designated representatives for supervising the Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) at the United States Military Academy. You will ensure that the policies, procedures, and records of USMA human subjects research meet all federal, DoD, and US Army requirements. Serve as a recognized authority and subject matter expert at USMA in the area of research ethics and human subject protection regulations. Ensure compliance of regulations, ethical guidelines, procedures, and related governmental policies aimed at a diverse group of personnel involved in human subjects research. Coordinate with Army, Department of Defense, and external institutions to ensure assurance coverage for all Academy researchers; Develop and implement institutional policies that adhere to regulatory guidance and policy. Establish and maintain effective communications with institutional officials, Institutional Review Board (IRB) Chairpersons, researchers, representatives of professional organizations, and others concerned about the protections for human subjects. Interact with investigators, research program leaders, and senior officials to assess institutional needs related to in the areas of the HRPP. Identify emerging issues within the HRPP mission area, including federal actions and extramural research considerations, as well as policy activities in other agencies within and outside DoD that may affect human subjects research. Develop guidance to assist the research community at the Academy in understanding and complying with regulations and policy.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): 1) Academic Achievement (Ph.D., Ed.D., or other terminal degree related to a discipline taught at the United States Military Academy highly preferred); 2) Specialized experience implementing regulations and policies governing a human research protection program; 3) Ability to develop institutional policies and procedures; 4) Ability to provide direction and leadership to an organization in an academic setting; 5) Demonstrated ability to teach at the college level; 6) Experience in faculty and staff development and training.
NOTE: Certified Clinical Research Professional [CIP] or Certified IRB Professional or 3 years of experience as an IRB Chair is desired but not required. A JD is desired but not required.
