The incumbent will develop, calibrate and validate a semi-empirical model for estimating cotton biomass from fields within the southeastern United States. Model development will involve use of optical and radar satellite remote sensing products along with field data for calibration and validation. The incumbent will conduct field work and will also collaborate with model developers in Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), and partners in other ARS locations.

This position requires a Ph.D in Agricultural Engineering or Agronomy or Geography or a related field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. Demonstrated ability using remote sensing data products; knowledge of field data collection methods and geospatial analytical methods for vegetation and/or crop modeling are desirable.
**Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. **
