This position is located in Western Area Power Administration’s Desert Southwest Region (DSW). At the full performance level, the incumbent implements the DSW Federal Employee Safety and Occupational Health (FESOH) and ensures compliance with applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE), industry and local laws, regulations, policies and requirements and ensures these are instituted. Activities and facilities are dispersed over a wide spread geographical area, providing energy service with continuous emergency reliability requirements. This position observes activities as they are performed in the field. These observed activities routinely include high hazard requirements such as working at heights and/or in proximity to energized high voltage electrical equipment; the operation of heavy construction and special-purpose equipment and vehicles; and travel in rotary wing aircraft. The incumbent major area of coverage will be in the Desert Southwest Region, Phoenix, AZ. The work consists of a mix of sedentary office and physical exertion field work. Field work requires frequent travel and may involve walking or climbing over rough terrain, exposure to weather and temperatures that may exceed 100 degrees; such field work is not sustained over long periods. The incumbent will use appropriate personal protection equipment.
