    Responsibilities

    • You will apply knowledge and skills related to accounting principles, theories, and techniques to perform accounting work for operational programs or systems where tasks are well defined and documented.
    • You will utilize automated data processing systems, procedures and controls that apply to automated financial, operational programs or systems.
    • You will follow documented processes and instructions to carry out daily accounting duties.
    • You will enter approved journal vouchers into the Navy ERP system and enter data to support many other system-related functions of financial management.
    • You will monitor system interfaces to notify appropriate personnel of system interface-related problems.
    • You will provide effective customer service and support to branch, division or department.

    Qualifications

    Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

    Successful completion of a degree in Accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.")
    OR
    Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:
    Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law;
    OR
    A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or
    Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements.

    For the NT-04:
    In addition to the Basic Education Requirements, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-03 pay band (GS-9/10 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying accounting principles, theories and techniques to perform accounting work for operational programs or systems;
    OR
    Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent degree;
    OR
    Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree;
    OR
    Successfully completed a LL.M. degree that is related to the position being filled;
    OR
    A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

    For the NT-03:
    In addition to the Basic Education Requirements, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-02 (GS-5/8 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assisting with accounting work, including the maintenance of accounting records, preparation, analysis and interpretation of financial statements;
    OR
    Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree;
    OR
    Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree;
    OR
    Have obtained an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
    OR
    A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

    For the NT-02:
    In addition to the Basic Education Requirements, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year specialized experience at or equivalent to the NT-01 pay band (GS-1/4 equivalent) in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector assisting with accounting work including reviewing accounting documents for accuracy and entering data into accounting systems;
    OR

    One year of graduate level education;
    OR
    Superior academic achievement.
    OR
    A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.

    This position has promotion potential to the NT-04 pay band. If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management.
