The incumbent will engage in successful (refereed publications) multidisciplinary collaborations with physical scientists and engineers. Incumbent will contribute as an expert mathematical statistician on statistical and metrological components of problems, experiments, and reference standards development in support of all efforts of the Statistical Engineering Division, National Institute of Standards and Technology. Incumbent will initiate research projects, individually or directing others, to advance the statistical sciences as they pertain broadly to research and experimentation in the basic and applied physical sciences; advancing the state-of-the-art of statistical modeling and statistical computing in manners relevant to NIST problems, including model selection, Bayes methods, Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampling, statistical computing, and emerging fields of machine/statistical learning; emphasizing applications in communications technology, time/frequency measurement, greenhouse gas measurement, materials research, physical chemistry, and other areas of statistical metrology. The position requires significant amounts of group presentation, written reporting, and statistical programming in R, SAS, MatLab, Mathematica, and/or Python on various computing platforms.

A. Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
B. Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to the above requirements: All applicants must have one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the GS-12 level (ZP-III at NIST). Specialized experience is defined as experience with research in statistical consensus building relevant to inter-laboratory studies and key comparisons. Experience in statistical computing including Bayes methods supported by Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling. Experience consulting with research teams on issues of statistical metrology relating to communications technology, thermo-physical constants, greenhouse gas emissions, and materials research.
