    THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

    This position is located at TX 149th Fighter Wing and is located in San Antonio, Kelly AFB, Texas. The purpose of this position is to serve as shop chief over a small organizational segment in a maintenance function with responsibility for the overall shop operation.

    Responsibilities

    As a Aircraft Mechanic (Wheel & Tire Shop / Phase) with the Texas Air National Guard, your duties will include, but will not be limited to:

    • Plans and lays out work to be accomplished in the shop which is then completed by the technician and lower graded mechanic(s).
    • Performs the full range of shop work.
    • Implements safety regulatory requirements.
    • Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Appointment Factor(s): This is an Excepted Service position that requires active membership in a compatible military assignment in the Texas Air National Guard and wear of the military uniform. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Texas Air National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Texas Air National Guard.     Areas of Consideration: Nationwide. This includes:

    • All currently employed full-time permanent, indefinite and temporary personnel of the Texas Air National Guard.

    Remarks:
    • May be required to work shifts.
    • This announcement is open for one year or until filled, whichever comes first. Applicants will be reviewed and referred (as applicable) to the selecting supervisor after 30 days.

    Compatible Military Assignment (per UMD): Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the AFSC to apply or be considered; however, applicant must be Duty AFSC assigned to a compatible position in accordance with statutes and National Guard Bureau regulations upon selection.

    Qualifications

    To be considered for qualification, your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment/experience reflecting the following:

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

    To qualify at the WG-11 grade level your resume must include relevant experience with beginning and ending dates of employment experience reflecting at least 18 months experience or training in the following: Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
