This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Center for Global Health (CGH), Global Immunization Division (GID), Strategic Information and Work Development Branch (SIWD), Atlanta, GA.

As a Mathematical Statistician, you will:
- Develops and applies advanced mathematical and statistical analysis techniques to the design of epidemiologic and laboratory studies and analysis of data to evaluate the incidence and spread of bacterial pathogens.
- Applies existing statistical inference procedures, and develops new techniques or refines existing techniques whenever necessary, to refine and test hypotheses related to objectives of GID research.
- Provides training in standard and state-of-the-art or emerging statistical methods for statisticians and non-statisticians within and outside GID.
- Directs biostatistical and data management work performed by junior statisticians, epidemiologists, statistical assistants and support staff.
- Prepares manuscripts for publication, technical reports or presentation, for statistical and non-statistical audiences.

A. Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
B. Combination of education and experience that includes at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 semester hours in mathematics and 6 semester hours in statistics, as show in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Courses acceptable toward meeting the mathematics course requirement above must have included at least four of the following: differential calculus, integral calculus, and advanced calculus, theory of equations, vector analysis, advanced algebra, linear algebra, mathematical logic, differential equations, or any other advanced course in mathematics for which one of these was a prerequisite.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements, applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position to include developing and applying advanced statistical and mathematical techniques to epidemiologic studies, estimation, and modeling.
Documenting experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
