    This National Guard position is for an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number D11366000and is part of the AZ 162nd Wing, Air National Guard.

    Note: Open until filled- Applications will be reviewed every 30 days for consideration for hire until 12 Dec 18.
    Note: No known military promotion is associated with this Technician Vacancy. All selected applicants will be placed in a position commensurate with their current rank and boarded for promotion at the discretion of military supervision.
    Note: Individual selected will receive an Indefinite Appointment and may be converted to permanent if funding becomes available and position is no longer encumbered .
    Note: This position is subject to rotating or night shift work in support of a 24/7 Operation.
    Note: Limited Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funds may be authorized if funds are available.

    NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.     Responsibilities

    AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, WG-8852-5/8/10. This position is located within a National Guard aircraft maintenance organization in Tucson, AZ (162WG). Its primary purpose is to inspect, repair, modify, and service aircraft systems, components, and assemblies, both on- and off-aircraft.

    • National Guard Membership is required.
    • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
    • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
    • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
    MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

    Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.

    Military Grades: E-1/AB - E-6/TSgt

    Compatible Military Assignments: Able to qualify for AFSC 2A3X3.

    Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

    Qualifications

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

    WG 5- Must possess at least 6 months of experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.

    WG 8- Must possess at least 12 months of experience using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.

    WG 10: Must possess at least 18 months of experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.

    How You Will Be Evaluated

    1. Ability to performs inspections, functional checks, and preventive maintenance on aircraft to include periodic, phase, hourly, preflight, postflight, calendar, thru-flight, and special inspections.

    2. Ability to remove and replace aircraft components.

    3. Ability to services oil, fluid, fuel, hydraulic, and oxygen systems.

    4. Knowledge and skill to use precision test equipment, technical data, schematics and wiring diagrams.
