As a Supervisory Interdisciplinary Scientist, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Serves as technical authority on all scientific decisions and judgments in connection with the abuse potential of central nervous system (CNS) active (psychotropic) drugs and anabolic androgenic steroids.
- Provides scientific and policy advice to the Associate Director for Controlled Substances in the development of policies and programs involving the most complex and highest priority scientific matters affecting the regulation of controlled substances.
- Represents the Agency government-wide and is a scientific-regulatory expert in matters related to area of responsibility and is frequently called on to advise others concerning FDA statutes and regulations.
- Directs a staff of medical officers, pharmacologists, interdisciplinary scientists, and chemists engaged in consultation regarding abuse potential assessment and drug scheduling for INDs, NDAs and other submissions for CDER and the other Centers within FDA.

QualificationsIn order to qualify for Supervisory IDS, 0405/1320, at GS-15, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by12/15/2017.
Individual Occupational Requirements
Degree: major in an appropriate biological, medical, veterinary, or physical science, or in pharmacy that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry and physiology and 12 semester hours in pharmacology.
Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Have at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: advising offices on policy, procedures and regulations related to drug applications of central nervous system-active (CNS-active) drugs with potential risk for abuse and dependence; participating in scientific conferences on behalf of the agency; overseeing and directing all operational workload of the program; and developing, drafts written responses to outside correspondence.
