- Performs as a professional architect or civil engineer in planning and designing substantial new construction, renovation, and improvement projects on real property facilities.
- Coordinates the preparation of and reviews A&E statements of work (SOW).

0808 - Architect
0810 - Civil Engineer
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes advanced engineering or architectural concepts, principles and practices to serve as subject matter expert and technical authority that enables the incumbent to investigate and provide consultant services relating to facility engineering project management such as design, construction and operations, and maintenance of systems, processes, and components that relate to all phases of facility engineering. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the GS-12 grade/level or equivalent position in the federal service. In addition to meeting the specialized experience, to qualify for this position you must also meet one of the basic qualification requirements listed below.
Basic Requirement for GS-0808-13 Architect: A Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in architecture or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of architectural principles, methods, and techniques; applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings. Basic Requirement for GS-0810-13: A Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.
Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying professional engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-12 or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral. - Knowledge of a broad range of architectural or civil engineering concepts, principles, practices, techniques, and methods in building design and construction process, and an extensive familiarity with other engineering disciplines; knowledge of aesthetic and functional design techniques; preparation of preliminary drawings, sketches, and construction drawings; and a broad range of architectural and construction standards, methods, practices, techniques, materials, and equipment to determine compliance with federal, state, and local codes and regulations.
- Knowledge of standard contracting regulations, practices, and procedures; health, safety, security regulations and environmental requirements as outlined in applicable safety standards, regulations, and/or technical orders; program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control and budget systems, and management; and work classifications and regulatory and statutory restriction on the expenditures of appropriated and non-appropriated funds.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization. Basic knowledge of personnel policies and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, providing expert advice to senior officials and colleagues responsible for broad program operations.
