    This National Guard position is for a NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER, Position Description Number D2320000and is part of the AZ 161st Air Refueling Wing, Air National Guard.

    NOTE: This position is subject to rotating shifts, weekends and possible night shifts.
    NOTE: Must possess or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.
    NOTE: Must possess any aircraft maintenance AFSC (2AXXX) and be able to obtain the AFSC 2A7X2. Applicants not possessing 2A7X2 AFSC will be required to attend Technical Training School which is not waiverable.
    NOTE: Include proof of AFSC such as RIP.
    Individual selected will receive an Indefinite Appointment and may be converted to permanent based on availability of funds or position no longer being encumbered.

    NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard.     Responsibilities

    NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTER, WG-3705-10, this position is located in the Aircraft Structural Maintenance Section at the 161st Air Refueling Wing (Phoenix, AZ) in the Maintenance Group, Maintenance Squadron, Fabrication Flight. This is an Air National Guard (ANG) Dual Status Technician position requiring military membership, compatible military skill assignment, and classification. The primary purpose of this position is to inspect aerospace weapon systems components and support equipment for structural integrity using nondestructive inspection methods and performs fluid analysis.

    • National Guard Membership is required.
    • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

    MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

    Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.     Qualifications

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least 12 months experience or training in using ultrasonic and/or eddy current inspection techniques to observe, measure, and detect discontinuities and flaws. Experience classifying test results, identifying material deficiencies and recommending courses of action for items of equipment. Experience recommending engine components to be inspected and forwarding results to the appropriate authority. Experience performing scheduled inspections of testing equipment ensuring compliance with established technical regulations and procedures.

    How You Will Be Evaluated

    Your qualifications will be evaluated on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics):

    Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) and Compliance Inspection
    The following competencies need to be addressed on the AZ NG 335-2-R Form (for additional space please use MS Word document)

    1. Knowledge of the full range of characteristics of metals identification; wear metals identification and content; metal discontinuity and flaw detection; operation and maintenance of nondestructive test and oil analysis equipment; radiological safety and radiation monitoring
    procedures; technical orders and directives; and proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials.

    2. Knowledge of the various shapes, sizes, and density of flaw indications in parts, components, and materials being tested.

    3. Ability to identify, locate, and measure hidden and subsurface flaws, corrosion, and separation in bonded and honeycomb structures; integrity of welds; precision dimensional and volume measurements; and hardness of materials.

    4. Ability to follow technical orders engineering drawings, technical data, workbooks, and NDI literature to determine inspection requirements and area(s) to be examined.

    5. Ability to make independent determinations during the inspection process to select the inspection technique required and the calibration procedure; and evaluate defects, their nature, size, scope, and exact locations, and independently determine if the article should be accepted or rejected.
