The Maintenance Worker performs basic and routine repair for various trades that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, cleaning, adjusting, and testing defective parts and equipment such as light fixtures, dish washers, garbage disposals, electrical appliances, drains, faucets, hot water heaters, doors, switches, and other like equipment. Incumbent primarily hooks up to installed systems such as water, steam, sewer, gas, and electrical. Incumbent assists journeyman Pipefitters, Electricians, and Carpenters when additional manpower is needed for higher level technical tasks.
While helping the Journeyman Pipefitters the incumbent will assist in task such as: replace commercial hot water heaters, clean drain lines and sewers, large pipe leaks requiring outages, finding then repairing underground leaks, repairing sprinkler systems, using a pro press tool to make timely repairs to a system that is in use. While helping the Journeyman Electricians the incumbent will assist in task such as: installing conduit, cable trays, pulling wire, locates, streetlights and out building lights, replacing ballasts. While helping the journeyman Carpenters the incumbent will assist in task such as: installing cabinets and countertops, pouring concrete, install and removes doors, remodeling and minor construction projects.
Work assignments are in the hospital and also quarters and outlying buildings depending on assignment. Work assignments in are primarily plumbing, electrical, and carpentry in nature and distribution of assigned work will vary depending on assigned area.
Incumbent uses work order, oral instructions, manufacturer's literature and sketches that provide information on work needing to be accomplished. Incumbent must have a basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and carpentry practices, performs minor troubleshooting, and requests assistance and direction from his/her supervisor and journeyman when faced with complex problems.
Incumbent installs like replacement equipment, devices, and fixtures and replaces like sections of pipe using previously determined routing, hangers, and sizing.
Incumbent performs PM's as assigned following established Preventative Maintenance procedures. Provides routine maintenance and repair to include replacing light bulbs, replacing stained or damaged ceiling tile, repairing or coordinating repairs roof and water leaks.
Incumbent performs electrical safety checks on electrical appliances to ensure appliances are in safe condition. This includes an inspection of the general condition of the equipment and to ensure cords are intact to include end plug and electrical cord.

PHYSICAL EFFORT/REQUIREMENTS: Incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms to reach hard to access places to perform assigned tasks. The position requires the incumbent to stoop, stand, bend, kneel, climb, and lift and move parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. Occasionally the incumbent is required to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: This position completes work assignments both inside and outside and may be exposed to temperature and weather extremes. Incumbent is exposed to dirty, dusty, and greasy conditions. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes , and bruises.
EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.
