The nurse manager for Specialty Care is a designated first-line supervisor responsible for the 24/7 nursing operations in the Specialty Care Department. Specialty Care includes a variety of clinics for specialized care for the Veterans including, but not limited to, cardiology, pulmonology, urology, podiatry, endocrine, rheumatology, orthopedics, sleep clinic, hematology/oncology, dermatology, etc. This position has continuing responsibility for the following:
· Setting priorities and preparing schedules to ensure completion of work.
· Staffing and assigning work based on priorities, requirements of assignments and capabilities of subordinates.
· Evaluating work performance.
· Giving advice, counsel, or instruction to personnel on work and administrative matters.
· Hearing and resolving complaints of staff and referring as needed.
· Recommending and/or taking disciplinary action where appropriate.
· Identifying development and training needs for staff and providing/coordinating training.
· Maintaining and ensuring continuous accreditation readiness in Specialty Care.
· Analyzing performance improvement data and establish action plans for improvement.
· Completing recurring reports in a timely manner.
· Participating on service or medical center committees and task forces.
· Working in partnership with the union and adhering to EEO principles.
· Developing and managing collaborative relationships with physicians and other clinicians.
This Nurse Manager will report directly to the Chief Nurse of Ambulatory Care.
Tour of Duty: Normal work days/hours will be Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, with work day/hours flexibility required as patient care needs require. This position has 24 hour accountability.

· Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
· Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
· Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
· Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
· Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years' experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years' experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
· Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years' experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years' experience.
GRADE DETERMINATIONS: Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry.
