    This National Guard position is for a IT Specialist (CUSTSPT), Position Description Number D1650P01and is part of the AZ 162nd Wing, Air National Guard.

    Note: Open until filled(10 vacancies)-Applications will be reviewed every 30 days for consideration for hire until 15 Dec 2017.

    Note: No known military promotion is associated with this Technician Vacancy. All selected applicants will be placed in a position commensurate with their current rank and boarded for promotion at the discretion of military supervision.
    Note: Individual selected will receive a Permanent Appointment after successful completion of a one year trial period.
    Note: This position is subject to rotating or night shift work in support of 24/7 operation.
    Note: Individual selected must be willing to attend FTD courses if no prior Ground Control Station (GCS) and/or SATCOM Earth Terminal Subsystem (SETSS) Maintenance experience.
    Note: Individual selected will be UTC tasked and subject to involuntary deployment.
    Note: Limited Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funds may be authorized if funds are available.
    Note: All Selected applicants will be placed on an Order of Merit List in the order of their referral and selection ranking.

    NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

    Responsibilities

    As a IT Specialist (CUSTSPT), GS-2210-11, this position is located at Davis Monthan AFB, AZ (Tucson, AZ) working in an Air National Guard Maintenance Group supporting a Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) mission. The purpose of the position is to provide maintenance support for the Ground Control Stations (GCS) and applicable support equipment used for the operation of RPA's. The incumbent provides maintenance and technical system support for GCS's, Ground Data Terminals (GDT), SATCOM Earth Terminal Subsystem (SETSS) and associated Support Equipment. The incumbent is responsible for installing, inspecting, troubleshooting and repair of these IT systems hardware and software.

    Conditions Of Employment

    • National Guard Membership is required.
    • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
    • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
    • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
    • Must complete 3-level training to obtain Security Plus Certificate.
    • Must be able to obtain Top Secret/SCI Clearance

    MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

    Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership.     Military Grades: E-1/AB - E-5/SSgt

    Compatible Military Assignments: Must be able to obtain a 3D1X2 AFSC.

    Qualifications

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 36 months experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

    The following competencies need to be addressed on the AZ NG 335-2-R Form (for additional space please use MS Word document)
    1. Knowledge and skill in operating a wide variety of encryption hardware and software along with the ability to integrate these items into aircraft weapons systems.
    2. Knowledge of system diagnostic tools and structured techniques used to repair aircraft and/or IT system.
    3. Knowledge of a wide range of IT standards, principles, concepts, methods, policies, and authorized approaches.
    4. Skill in applying systems design techniques and hardware capabilities to analyze requests for new and modified applications.
    5. Ability to analyze difficult and complex systems and provide solutions to user problems.
    6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with peers, supervisors and other work centers and to work collaboratively with other organizations to accomplish goals.
