Employee will serve as a Food Service Worker assigned to Nutrition and Food Service (NFS) located at the Veterans Healthcare Administration in San Francisco, CA. Duties will include, but may not be limited to the following:
· Performs duties that require a wide knowledge of food service operations including food and nourishment preparation, tray assembly, Café service tray deliver and pick-up, ware washing and sanitation.
· Prepares serving area for tray service.
· Assembles and portions foods in standard serving sizes, placing item on trays.
· Distribute and collect trays from patient bedside and records information and reporting patient/staff comments and complaints to the supervisor/work leader or dietician.
· Performs a variety of tasks in the dish room.
· Sets up and operates mechanical dishwasher and pot and pan washer.
· Cleans the tables and chairs.
· Sorts, washes, peel, and cuts fresh fruits and vegetables.
· Pushes tray delivery carts to distribute and collect trays.
· Prepares uncooked items following simple instructions.
· Performs other food service/kitchen related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Intermittent (On-Call)
NOTE: Intermittent employment is defined as non-fulltime employment in which employees serve under an excepted or competitive service appointment without a regularly scheduled tour of duty. A position with an intermittent work schedule is sporadic and unpredictable so that a tour of duty cannot be regularly scheduled in advance.

Physical
effort and work conditions: Perform work requiring light to moderate physical
effort and employee is subject to continuous standing and walking, frequent
stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending. Frequently lifts/moves
objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted (e.g., pushing small carts of dirty
dishes) and occasionally up to 40-60 pounds (e.g., filling beverage dispensers)
with the assistance of other workers. Performs heavy work, such as
scouring and scrubbing large size cooking utensils and pushing heavy carts; and
unloads trucks and storing and delivering supplies. May be required to work on
ladders and use power-cleaning equipment.
This work is performed in kitchen areas where steam and heat from cooking and
dishwashing equipment often cause uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity.
The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food service activities,
and there is danger of slipping on floors where food/beverages have been
dropped. Employees is regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades,
hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in
refrigeration or freezing units.
