AREA INFORMATION: Wind Cave National Park is located in the southern Black Hills of southwest South Dakota. Climate extremes range from sub-zero temperatures during winter to over 100 degrees during summer. Medical and dental services, schools K-12, shopping, and churches of most faiths are available in Hot Springs (12 miles) and Custer (20 miles). Housing for rent or purchase is available in Hot Springs and Custer. Rapid City, SD (pop: 60,000) is one hour north of Hot Springs and has a full range of services available.
Number of Vacancies: Up to two positions will be filled by this vacancy announcement at Hot Springs SD. Scours lavatories, stools and urinals. Scrubs, strips, waxes, dusts and mops floors. Vacuums and shampoos carpets, changes building and trail lights, picks up litter, empties waste baskets, recycle bins, trash containers, sweeps and cleans steps, walkways, parking areas and trails. Performs and assists higher graded employees in minor plumbing repairs and minor electrical work. Performs and assists higher graded employees in maintenance and repairs to items constructed of wood, concrete, metal, timber, stone, and other miscellaneous materials using basic hand and power tools. Loads and unloads fence supplies, heavy boxes, bulky supplies, trash, furniture and construction materials from trucks trailers and vans. Incumbent frequently lifts, carries and moves materials and supplies weighing 50 pounds and sometimes up to 100 pounds with assistance. Assists higher grade employees replacing elements to buildings, residences, and equipment such as boards, siding, faucets, and mower blades. Perform laborer duties on buildings, structures, grounds, roads and trails while utilizing required personal safety equipment (eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, safety vests, hard hats, etc.). Selectee may work with higher graded employees on building maintenance and road repair projects when the need arises.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The nature of position requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing. It requires working overhead or in stretched, cramped, awkward, tiring, and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time. Exerts moderately heavy physical effort, lifts and carries items up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside and outside. Inside work is often accomplished in office buildings or in well-lighted, heated, and ventilated areas such as warehouses, loading docks, or trade shops. Frequently exposed to weather and temperature extremes, drafts, noise, dust, dirt and the possibility of bruises, muscle strains, cuts and scrapes. Work requires the employee to follow proper safety procedures and use standard safety equipment such as gloves, ear protectors, safety glasses, and steel-toed shoes to avoid possible hazard in the work area.
