    About the Position:
    This position is located at Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center, Fort Hood, Texas Medical Library.

    Ft. Hood is nicked The Great Place because of the quality of life the post and area offer Soldiers and their families.  Ft. Hood covers a total of 340 sq. miles and rests in the beautiful "hill and lake" country of Central Texas, between Killeen and Copperas Cove.  For those who enjoy the outdoors, Ft.     Ft. Hood rests in the beautiful hill and lake country of Central Texas approximately 60 miles north of Austin and 50 miles south of Waco.  Because of the weather, outdoor recreation is available much of the year.  Two lakes are only 15 minutes away.  Affordable urban and suburban housing is readily available.  Local colleges provide higher educational opportunities.     Responsibilities

    • Serve as the Librarian-in-Charge for the Medical Library supervising library staff ranging from Technical Information Specialist, contact library employees, assigned military personnel, and volunteers.
    • Responsible for the establishment of positions, the determination of special qualifications, and selection of employees.
    • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the operations of the library and information program.
    • Promote medical library services and information to assigned health care providers.
    • Plan, develop, maintain and review all systems, methods, practices, and procedures required to provide library services in accordance with established policies and standards.
    • Serve on the Education and Medical Library Committees.

    Qualifications

    Experience required:

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).  You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

    Your resume must describe at least one year of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: serving as a medical reference and systems librarian providing information services, to include reference, research, reader advisory, and instruction specializing in health oriented subject areas such as medicine, nursing, dentistry, allied health, and health care administration, but also in general subjects, scientific and technical areas to support a wide variety of academic programs equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service. 

    You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas:

    • Knowledge of Library Operations
    • Knowledge of Budget Functions
    • Ability to Utilize Automation Processes
    • Ability to Maintain Library Resources
    • Skill in Communication

    Education

    In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, all jobs in this occupation must meet this education requirement. (NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of your transcripts with this application package for verification) 

     

    Basic Education Requirement:

    A. A completion of one (1) full year academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree; (NOTE: a copy of your transcipts must be submitted to be considered)

    OR

    B. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience.
