DUTIES:

Duties:   Independently implements treatment modalities, provides counseling or psychotherapy for individuals, families and groups.   Conducts psychological and/or neuropsychological testing.  Identifies high-risk patients and provides clinical case management treatment services.  Provides crisis intervention services to homeless Veterans to address the cause and presenting complaint.  Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the Veteran/family and with the interdisciplinary treatment team and appropriate community partners.  Possesses the skills to offer psychosocial interventions and measures outcomes to interventions.


Work Schedule:  Full-time, Monday - Friday; 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

  • U.S. citizenship.  
  • Education. Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by APA.
  • Licensure. Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level.
  • English language Proficiency.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Must have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-11 LEVEL: None beyond the basic requirements.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-12 LEVEL: In addition to the basic requirements at the GS-11 level, at least 1 year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level.  Individuals assigned as GS-12 psychologists may be in the process of obtaining licensure at the independent practice level.  If unlicensed, the individual must be supervised by a licensed psychologist and the experience and supervision must meet the standards for psychology licensure.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-13 LEVEL:   Requires a minimum of 1 year of post-doctoral degree experience.  This experience must have been equivalent to the next lower grade level.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave:  Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.   VA may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their job-related non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service.  This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.
