DUTIES:

Position functions as a clinical neuropsychologist at the VA Northern California Health Care System at the Mather Mental Health Clinic and Sacramento VA Medical Center.  The incumbent carries out the full range of neuropsychological evaluation, assessment, and diagnostic services using accepted procedures and test instruments.  Provides expert professional opinion and advice on the application of neuropsychological principles to clinical services.  Provides consultative opinions to other health professionals and may be called upon to render consultative opinions to outside agencies.  Serves as a member of the Neuropsychology training faculty and will be involved in the supervision and training of psychology residents and interns. 

 

Preferred Experience:  Completion of formal Postdoctoral Residency or equivalent in Neuropsychology, experience/interest in participating in neurocognitive rehabilitation services to brain injured patients, and strong familiarity with neuroscience findings and their application to neuropsychological assessment activities.

 

For qualified mid-career applicants, the position will include program development and coordination of clinical services, as well as a leadership role in training of neuropsychology trainees and faculty membership in our APA-Approved Neuropsychology Post-doctoral Residency program.  Neuropsychologists with experience in coordinating clinical services and training postdoctoral residents are therefore strongly encouraged to apply.  In addition, for qualified applicants, clinical faculty appointment in the Department of Neurology, U.C. Davis Medical Center is available.

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized.

Drug Testing:  This is a testing designated position.  All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.  Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA.  Applicants who test positive for illegal use of drugs will not be appointed.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

·         Citizenship - Must be citizen of the United States

·         English language proficiency - Must be proficient in spoken and written English 

·         Education - Must have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology by the American Psychological Association (APA).  The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is employed AND have successfully completed a professional psychology interns training program that has been accredited by APA.  Exceptions:  (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time the individual  was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships requirement.  COPIES OF UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

·         Licensure - Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-13 LEVEL:   Full performance level for staff psychologists.  At this level psychologist are licensed at the doctoral level to practice independently in the provision of psychological services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate.  Specialized Experience:  Professional experience equivalent to two (2) or more years of clinical experience  diagnosing mental disorders, conducting psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, and treating mental disorders.  Among the modalities provided are individual, family and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback, psychological hypnosis, and environmental interventions.
