Not only is it the largest, most technologically advanced integrated health care system in the nation, but we also provide many other services to Veterans through the Benefits Administration and National Cemeteries.Psychologists engage in professional and scientific work that relates to behavior, capacities, traits, interests, and emotions. Psychologists are licensed at the doctoral level to practice independently in the provision of psychological services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. They are assigned to any VHA program, in this case, a VA medical center. Psychologists diagnose mental disorders, treat mental disorders through a variety of modalities and provide adjunctive interventions for treatment of medical disorders. Among the modalities provided are individual, family, and group psychotherapies. They consult with medical center staff on a wide variety of patient care issues. Psychologists may be involved in program evaluation and/or research activities.
Psychologists hold a state license to practice psychology and have at least one-year pre-doctoral work experience and one-year postdoctoral work experience as a psychologist in the VHA or a comparable professional setting. The psychologist applies advanced professional psychological diagnostic methods and evidence-based intervention strategies to a full range of patient problems in his/her work setting. S/he has advanced knowledge of psychological diagnosis, intervention, and behavioral health that qualifies him/her to provide advice and consultation to professionals representing a variety of disciplines. The primary job functions of psychologists at this level include the provision of direct psychological patient care, consultation services on difficult or complex cases, administrative duties, and education of staff and trainees supervision. However, some psychologists functioning at this level also have research obligations, are associated with a university faculty appointment, have collateral supervisory responsibilities, and/or provide administrative/managerial duties.
The incumbent is assigned to the position of Supervisory Psychologist for the Mental Health Clinic. In addition to providing direct patient care, this psychologist will have supervisory responsibilities and administrative/managerial duties.
Salary Determination: Applicant's education and length of practice (experience) will be considered by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.
Appointment Information: The candidate selected for this position may be placed into a temporary appointment, not to exceed one year and one day, pending completion of the boarding process.
