DUTIES:

In his/her capacity as a Team Leader, the incumbent's primary responsibility is to provide therapy and Readjustment counseling to all eligible combat veterans and their family members, as well as, veterans who experienced sexual harassment/assault during military service. These counseling and therapeutic services will range from routine to complex and include suicide prevention, crisis intervention and short and long term treatment with clients exhibiting post- traumatic stress disorder, with or without other psychiatric disorders and/or readjustment problems. The breadth of clients encountered and problems exhibited necessitates that the incumbent eclectically select and implement a variety of psychological, rehabilitation, social work, counseling and mental health techniques. He/She exercises full professional responsibility to provide effective services including, but not limited to, individual, group, conjoint, vocational, educational, substance abuse and readjustment counseling.

 

The incumbent is responsible to provide clinical leadership, management and supervision of all Vet Center clinical and administrative activities, and plans, coordinates, monitors, evaluates and supervises treatment services offered by the Vet Center staff. The duties of the Team Leader are quite complex and demanding. He/she must possess a high degree of clinical skill, including the unique skills needed to work with eligible veterans and their significant others; and to supervise and provide consultation to professionals and para-professionals providing clinical services. In addition, the incumbent must possess the capability to perform the administrative tasks required in a community-based office, of a program with unique working relationships with a wide range of VA facilities and community organizations.

 

Tour of Duty:  Monday thru Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm; some nights and weekends will be required to meet

mission demands.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

    a.  Citizenship.  Citizen of the United States. 

 

    b.  Education

    (1)  Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).  The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. A degree in the Health Psychology/Behavioral Medicine is preferred.

    AND

    (2)  Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA.  Exceptions: (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement. 

 

In addition to the basic requirements, the applicant must have the following:

 

GS-13:  Experience.  In addition to the basic requirements--applicant must have at least 1 year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12). 

 

              (a)  Licensure.  Hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

 

              (b)  Experience.  In addition to the experience requirements at the GS-12 level, at least 1 additional year of experience as a psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level.
