Job Summary

The Bureau of Land Management is looking for temporary employees to work as Fire Dispatchers (Range/Forestry Technicians) in Cedar City, Richfield, Salt Lake City, and Vernal, Utah. 

Positions at the GS-5 and GS-6 level have been identified as one of the key fire management positions under the Interagency Fire Program Management (IFPM) Standard. These positions has been classified as a Initial Attack Dispatcher (IADP), and is subject to meeting the minimum qualification standards for IFPM prior to being placed into the position. A Fire Dispatcher (GS-04 Range/Forestry Technician) provides a wide range of fire dispatch support functions; including mobilization, demobilization, logistics support. This involves the movement of aircraft, personnel and equipment in accordance with local dispatch mobilization guides and planning doocuements. A Fire Dispatcher (GS-05 Range/Forestry Technician) receives fire reports, determines location, land status , and current fire information, and dispatches personnel, equipment, aircraft, and/or supplies according to pre-defined plans or in response to resource orders from the field. Anticipates needs based upon the status of fire suppression activities and makes recommendation regarding orders/anticipated orders. Collects, processes, collates and submits incident information to support fire operations. Organizes and reviews completed records of all orders placed. Processes and interprets weather information. Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications. A Fire Dispatcher (GS-06 Range/Forestry Technician) is a dispatcher that serves as a central district coordination point with capability to assemble or obtain suppression sources including helicopters, retardant aircraft, firefighters, and fire overhead personnel. Provides input to be used in fire plans and recommends changes as appropriate. Interprets weather information and gives to management for making decisions. Inputs data into a number of fire-related computer applications.

Temporary employees hired in wildland fire or wildland fire support positions are eligible for the following:
•  Annual and Sick Leave
•  Depending on tour of duty – Sunday, holiday, shift differential and/ or hazard pay
•  Paid federal holidays
•  Participation in the Federal Employees Health Benefit (FEHB) program - Employees electing to participate in the FEHB will be responsible for the employee share of the premium while on the official agency roles.  After separating from federal employment, employees will be offered to continue participation in FEHB under the Temporary Continuation of Coverage (TCC) option. Employees electing to continue coverage under the TCC provision will be responsible for the full premium amount plus a 2% administration fee.
