This position is located in the Center for Global Health, Division of Public Health Systems and Workforce Development, Field and Applied Epidemiology Training, located in Atlanta, GA.

DUTIES:

As a senior medical officer, the incumbent provides substantial input in the day-to-day technical and scientific planning, implementation, and analysis of the medical aspects of scientific research studies conducted by other scientists. Conceives, plans, evaluates, coordinates and implements activities related to research programs, projects, etc. that will assist in achieving the goals of the agency and/or CC/CO/CIO utilizing information provided from the entire scientific and medical community as well as from other components of the agency. Incumbent must possess an understanding of methods in various research activities in order to serve as a key advisor on the medical and epidemiological aspects of complex scientific studies and evaluation research. Serve as a liaison with other CDC organizational units, State and local public health officials, and other federal and non-governmental agencies, to achieve desired public health objectives. In addition, serves as scientific/medical consultant for assigned grants, contracts, or cooperative agreements with state and local health departments, community-based organizations, and other governmental and non-governmental agencies and organizations. Supervises EIS Officers, interns, students, and guest researchers assigned and provides consultation and direction on conceptualization, design, implementation, and presentation of the results of epidemiological/evaluation studies and surveillance projects conducted by junior scientist.  


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Basic Qualifications:

Must possess a Doctor of medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accredited body in the year of the applicant's graduation.  A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provide education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country.  Applicants who received a degree from a foreign medical school, but are license to practice medicine in a state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States require no other certification with regard to the quality of their education.

Minimum Qualifications:  In addition to meeting the Basic Qualifications, applicants must also meet the following Additional Qualifications for Medical Officer, GS-602-14:

Four (4) years of residency training in the specialty of the position being filled or equivalent experience and training. 

Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.  Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position which includes experience planning, organizing, and conducting epidemiologic studies, surveillance, or program evaluation activities related to Field Applied Epidemiology Training Program. FRENCH LANGUAGE is REQUIRED.
