The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center, Iron Mountain, MI, is announcing the following position: A full-time Associate  Chief Pharmacist – Clinical Programs located in Pharmacy Service.  This position is to serve as a first level supervisor of clinical programs, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over non-supervisory positions.

The Iron Mountain VA is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is part of the VA’s Great Lakes Health Care System in the Veteran’s Integrated Service Network (VISN 12). The Medical Center and its community clinics/sites serve eligible veterans in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (fifteen counties) and Northeast Wisconsin (eleven counties). DUTIES:

DUTIES:  This position functions administratively under the Chief, Pharmacy Service.  Minimal direction is received in accomplishing overall program objectives.  The position is responsible for developing goals and objectives that integrate organization and pharmacy objectives.   Responsible for overseeing the professional and administrative management of clinical pharmacy staff and programs in accordance with the guidance set forth in Pharmacy Service policies and procedures, VA regulations, and state and federal laws governing the practice of pharmacy.  Establishes policies and procedures for accomplishment of providing safe, timely and efficient pharmaceutical care.  Plans and schedules work in a manner that promotes a smooth flow and even distribution of work.   Is responsible for the supervisory functions and management of clinical staff.  Advises and provides counsel to clinical staff regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management.  Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and EEO and diversity objectives.  Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards.  

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Considerable periods of sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and pushing or pulling of carts are inherent in the position.  Bending, stooping, and lifting of supplies is necessary, mostly under 50 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work is performed within the pharmacy and the medical center.  Work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions (e.g., risk exposure to caustic agents, flammable liquids when unpacking supplies or cleaning equipment).  The incumbent works with drugs and chemicals in which are must be taken in the event accidental contact is made to the skin, eyes, lungs.  Incumbent follows guidelines for preparation, handling and administration of hazardous drugs and disposal of all pharmaceutical waste in compliance with medical center policy.

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

 

Must be a US Citizen

Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy from and approved college or university? The degree program must have been approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE), or prior to the establishment of ACPE, have been a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). COPY OF TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

Possess a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the Unites States, or in the District of Columbia?

Proficient in spoken and written English.

Posses 1 full year of creditable experience at the next lower grade level which is directly related to the professional and administrative management of an inpatient/outpatient area in Pharmacy or board certification recognized by the American Pharmaceutical Association’s Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties, or the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (or equivalent), or completion of a 2 year post Pharm.D. fellowship in a clinical or specialized program

PREFERRED: Completion of a 6 year Pharm D and completion of a fellowship in clinical or specialized program.

Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.
