The incumbent serves as the agency authority and participates with scientific and program consultants in various aspects of study or survey design processes, including searches or reviews of existing literature and data in a scientific area. Incumbent prepares and/or presents summaries for a variety of purposes and monitors internal review board clearances. Incumbent develop policy and objectives, appraising programs, and initiating requirements for epidemiological studies. Incumbent oversees contracts, grants, awards or cooperative agreements with full responsibility for carrying out all required monitoring and management duties. Designs, plans and initiates epidemiologic studies, surveys, and investigations. Incumbent serves as a national or internationally recognized consultant and expert on epidemiological issues on critical problems in the field of epidemiology.
Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service as defined in the next paragraph.
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) to successfully perform the duties of the position designing, conducting, and analyzing public health surveillance projects; providing guidance and expertise supporting clearance procedures for research activities; and providing scientific consultation in a team environment to support infectious disease prevention and response activities.
Successfully completed a full four-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
Documenting experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above.
Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
