DUTIES:

The incumbent will specifically address the complex behavioral needs of Veterans with Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a member of a PTSD Clinical Team (PCT).  The primary job functions include the provision of direct psychological patient care including assessment, treatment, and consultation services on difficult or complex cases having PTSD as a primary or co-morbid diagnosis, education of staff, and trainee supervision.  Incumbent has advanced knowledge of culturally sensitive psychological assessment techniques, diagnosis, intervention, and behavioral health that qualifies hi/her to provide advanced behavioral health services to patients with PTSD, and expert advice and consultation on PTSD to professionals representing a variety of disciplines.  Incumbent  will exercise judgment in the selection of or adaptation of standard and accepted psychological theories, techniques, and practices in treating patients or developing new techniques and programs for the treatment of clinical populations.  Incumbent is expected to provide a range of psychotherapy interventions to include evidence-based psychotherapies (CPT and PE), and may be involved in delivery of clinical services via tele-mental health.  

 

Relocation Expenses: Relocation expenses are not authorized for this position.

 

Drug Testing:  This is a testing designated position.  All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.  Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with the VA.  Applicants who test positive for illegal use of drugs will not be appointed.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

 

Citizenship - Must be citizen of the United States

 

English language proficiency - Must be proficient in spoken and written English

 

Education - Must have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology by the American Psychological Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is employee. AND, have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. Exceptions: (1) new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the HVA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement. Licensure - Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

 

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-12 LEVEL:    In addition to the basic requirements, at least 1 year of experience as a professional psychologist equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11)Specialized Experience:  Diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, and treat mental disorders.

 

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE FOR GS-13 LEVEL: Full performance level for staff psychologists. At this level psychologists are licensed at the doctoral level to practice independently in the provision of psychological services consulting with peers and supervisors as appropriate. Specialized Experience: Diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, and treat mental disorders. Among the modalities provided are individual, family and group psychotherapies, and other interventions such as biofeedback, psychological hypnosis, and environmental interventions. Must have 2 years of post-doctoral experience as a psychologist with at least 1 year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12).

Ability to provide clinical supervision to non-licensed staff, interns, and practicum students in the areas of psychological assessment, consultation, treatment planning, and best practice psychotherapeutic interventions to address various mental health related disorders.
