DUTIES:

This position may be filled as either A. Staff Psychologist OR B. Staff Psychologist (Telemental Health) as per duties highlighted below: 

 

A.     Staff Psychologist:   independently provides clinical psychotherapy and psychological assessment to eligible veterans whose health care, psychological problems and needs are complex and require a high degree of clinical intervention . The incumbent is required to interact with the patient, family, significant others, college faculty/staff, community agencies, and other VA staff and collaborators. Specific to the role of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) specialist, the incumbent coordinates the PTSD programming at the facility and provides evidence based psychotherapies to veterans diagnosed with PTSD both on site and through video-teleconferencing.  

 

Provides psychological testing and other evidence based individual/group therapies for the full range of psychiatric disorders, as the needs of the service dictate. Coordinates and directs ongoing care for assigned patients and initiates appropriate referrals and consultations. Tracks performance measures related to PTSD treatment. Initiates and maintains effective liaisons with other programs and divisions in order to facilitate mutual referrals and promote continuity of care. Monitors PTSD programming for efficiency and effectiveness; makes recommendations to the Associate Chief of Staff for Behavioral Health (ACOSIBH) regarding improvement in programming and resource utilization.

B.     Staff Psychologist (Telemental Health):  Serves as a staff psychologist in the Telemental Health Program at our VA Walla Walla facility . The primary function of this psychologist is the provision of the assessment and evidence-based treatment for a number of mental health conditions (to include PTSD) via telemental health modalities (e.g., clinical video teleconferencing). These services will be primarily provided to veterans in the surrounding Community Based Outpatient Clinics, as well as other VA Clinics across VISN 20.

 

Obtains training and VA certification, if not already achieved, in the provision of evidence based psychotherapies for PTSD, to include Cognitive Processing Therapy and Prolonged Exposure Therapy.

 

 


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

· Citizen of the United States

· Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA).   The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.

·Completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA.

· Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia

· Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

 

GRADE DETERMINATION:   The full performance level of this vacancy is GS-13.  The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is in the range of GS-11 to GS-13.  The Professional Standards Board (a peer-review group) will review the selected candidate's education and experience and recommend the grade and step at which the candidate will be placed.  The salary is based on the grade and step approved for the selected candidate.
