DUTIES:

Madison VA is hiring to fill an exciting clinical position serving veterans with co-occurring Substance Use Disorders & PTSD.   We are looking for a licensed clinical psychologist with skills treating both SUDs and PTSD using evidence-based treatments.   This position is within the Mental Health Service Line providing clinical care & consultation for veterans with co-occurring disorders in both the Addictions & PTSD Clinics. They will serve as a member of the multidisciplinary team.   Other duties include: performance improvement projects, intern/resident supervision, hospital committee assignments, staff education & participation in research as indicated.

 

Clinical

·         Ability to evaluate and diagnose mental disorders, conduct psychological and/or neuropsychological assessments, with emphasis on SUDs & PTSD.

·         Ability to treat Substance Abuse, PTSD, and other psychiatric co-morbidities through a variety of evidence-based modalities including CPT/PE.

·         Is responsible for timely completion of all clinical charting and documentation required by the Hospital, as appropriate.

·         The development & implementation of new interventions for co-occurring SUD/PTSD and other disorders

·         Serves as a clinical consultant to MHSL staff, particularly PCT/ADTP teams and trainees and assist in their formulation of the psychological characteristics and appropriate treatment expectations regarding their patients.

 

Academic/Teaching/Training:

1.      Provides clinical supervision to various disciplines and levels of training, including psychology trainees, medical students, social work interns and psychiatric residents.

2.      Provides lectures at substance abuse & PTSD seminars.

3.      Fulfills role as clinical faculty member at UW-Madison

 

Research/Program Evaluation/Administration

  1. Oversees the establishment of program monitors and outcome measurements within programs assigned using a data-driven quality assurance processes.
  2. If applicable within other priorities, plans and oversees the completion of personal research programs, designed to provide information regarding program planning and relevant treatment approaches.
  3. Presents outcome data and research results at VA and regional or national scientific or professional meetings.
  4. Assists in preparation of RFP's and grant proposals, as assigned.
  5. Oversees development of new treatment protocols for patients with substance use disorders & co-morbid PTSD

 

Other Significant Responsibilities

  1. Serves on Mental Health Service, Hospital, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces.  
  2. Represents psychology on decision-making committees at the Hospital.
  3. Actively participates in leadership roles on local, state and national professional organizations.
  4. Represents the Hospital at professional/program community group/events and committees.
  5. Conducts local VA police evaluations on an as-needed basis.

 

WORK SCHEDULE:  M-F.   May eventually include some evening hours on one day.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, books, or small parts. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts, which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices, meeting and training rooms, or libraries. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENT:

Qualifications:

1.  Doctoral degree in psychology from APA Accredited Graduate Program in an area of training consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed

2.  Internship in professional psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association

3.  Professional Psychology Licensure: States, License Numbers, dates of original licensure.

A psychologist must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the US, or the District of Columbia.   The secretary may waive the requirement of licensure for a period not to exceed two years from the date of employment on the condition that such a psychologist provide care only under the supervision of a psychologist who is so licensed.    

4.   For GS 11, no experience is needed beyond the basic requirements.    For GS 12, at least one year of professional experience is required that is equivalent to the next lower grade level.   Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1.   Knowledge of, and ability to apply, a wide range of professional psychological theories and assessment methods to a variety of patient populations.  2.   Ability to develop coherent treatment strategies.  3.   Ability to incorporate new clinical procedures.  For GS 13, there must be two or more years of clinical experience comparable to what one would get in a VA setting, either by post-doctoral employment or two years of employment as a psychologist.   A psychologist must be licensed at the GS 13 level.  Demonstrated Knowledge, Skilles and Abilities: 1.   Knowledge of, and ability to apply, advanced professional psychological theories and techniques to the full range of patient populations. 2.   Ability to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to professional psychology and behavioral health. 3.   Knowledge of clinical research literature.

Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify an applicant for that grade level.
