The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) is responsible for ensuring safety of the Nation's passenger and freight rail operations and infrastructure by promoting safe, efficient and accessible rail transportation. The mission and focus of FRA has grown to include the design and management of an unprecedented investment in the creation of a nationwide passenger rail network. FRA is providing leadership for the creation of a more balanced transportation system, transforming the way Americans travel.
You will serve as a Railroad Safety Specialist on the Bridge and Structures Team in the Office of Safety Assurance and Compliance, Rail & Infrastructure Integrity Division. You will be responsible for providing expert advice and assistance to Headquarters and Regional Safety staff, and several Regional Administrators, on safety issues relating to management, inspection and safety of railroad bridges, railroad track safety issues related to bridges and tunnels, and issues concerning railroad personnel working on bridges and on and near railroad tracks.
This position is perfect for a mid-level inquisitive professional with experience conducting inspections and investigations pertaining to railroad bridges and related structures, and has worked with programs to ensure the safety of railroad bridges. They should possess a high degree of energy, be comfortable working at heights, have a passion for the job, like to travel, have excellent communication skills, and be able to achieve organizational goals.
