Positions are located at Schofield Barracks, Petersen CDC, Bowen CDC and Helemano Military Reservation CDC.

Child and Youth Program Assistants perform routine or repetitive established tasks, following verbal and written instructions, under close supervision of higher-level employees. Work is reviewed in detail, while in progress and upon completion, to ensure and assess trainee's progress, and to evaluate attainment of training objectives and readiness for increased autonomy and further training.

DUTIES:

This is a developmental position leading to Child and Youth Program Assistant (Target Level-4) Job #AM299. Serves as a Child and Youth Program Assistant (CYPA) in one or more CYS programs. Maintains control of and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth. Assists in planning, coordinating and conducting activities for program participants, including group as well as individual child activities. Establishes a program environment that sustains participant interest and promotes positive child and youth interactions with other children, youth and adults. Helps prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedule. Assists children and youth with special projects and homework. Participates in conferences with parents and staff. Reviews and implements daily schedules and activity plans to ensure age/stage appropriateness. Sets up displays and bulletin boards.
Interacts with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, and the Command.
Supervises children and youth during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings and special events. Promotes and models safety, fitness, health and nutrition practices. Notifies supervisor on health, fire, and safety compliance concerns. Helps arrange for/serve appropriate snacks/meals where applicable.
Observes a program participant for signs that may indicate illness, abuse or neglect and reports as directed. Notes special instructions provided by parents. Ensures children and youth (as applicable) depart with authorized person according to written parental instruction.
Participates in program evaluation using designated instruments such as programmatic rating scales, risk assessment tools (as required) self-inspection materials and national accreditation tools. Assists In achieving and maintaining DoD/Army certification and national accreditation or Army equivalent. Provides care/supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, Army and local policies, guidance, and standards
Completes designated training requirements and tracks and records completed training on own Individual Development Plan (IDP).
Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities. Collects, maintains and reports program participation data.
Performs other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

For Entry-level candidate must:
-Possess a high school diploma or GED certificate.
-Be able to communicate in English (both written and verbal).
-Be 18 years of age at the time of appointment.
-Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis. Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors.
-Documentation of good mental and physical health and freedom from communicable disease.
-Satisfactory completion (no convictions of child abuse, molestation, neglect, or battering; or drug related offense) of Local and National Background Checks.

For Skill-level candidate must meet Entry-level requirements and candidate must:
-Possess three (3) months experience working in a group program with children and/or youth.
-Completion of Army Entry Level Training Certificate (Air Force/Navy equivalent).
OR
-Meet Entry-level requirements and demonstrated satisfactory performance.
-One year of education above high school level which included nine (9) semester hours of college credit in early childhood/elementary/secondary/special education, child/youth development, psychology, human development, youth program administration, recreation or related behavioral sciences, or one (1) year vocational certificate in childcare.

For Target-level candidate must meet entry-level requirements and candidate must:
-Meet skill-level requirements and demonstrated satisfactory performance.
-Possess twelve (12) months experience working in a group program with children and/or youth.
-Completion of Army Foundation Level Training Certificate (Air Force/Navy equivalent).
OR
-Two (2) years of education above the High School level, which includes twelve (12)-semester hours of college credit in early childhood /elementary /secondary /special education, child /youth development, psychology, human development, youth program administration or related behavioral sciences, or 90 Hour Child Development Associate Certificate.


 


Candidate must posses a high school diploma or GED certificate.

All required background checks of AR 215-3, Chapter 2, paragraph 2-13;i. must be successfully completed and maintained to include the initiation/completion of Child and Youth National Agency Check with Inquiries (CNACI). Satisfactory completion of required training must accomplish within twelve months of appointment leading to CYPA (Target Level). Failure to achieve desired training with demonstrated competence may result in separation.

Immunizations may be required as a condition of employment for the health and safety of those in the facility as determined by medical authority. Already immune individuals (based on documented receipt of vaccine series or physician diagnosed illness), or those subject to religious exemption, or medical contraindication are exempt from this requirement.
