DUTIES:

The Sioux Falls VA Health Care System is currently recruiting for a Full-time, Permanent, Nurse Manager. This position will be located in the Primary/Specialty Medicine Service Line at the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Sioux City, IA.  Applicant will be required to provide Nurse Manager coverage to other CBOC's on a regular and reoccuring basis.  The Nurse Manager position requires the dedication and commitment of an experienced RN to function in a leadership role that includes but is not limited to:

The Nurse Manager has responsibility and accountability for managing patient care, patient care programs and staff activities that support the mission, vision and objectives of the VA Health Care System in the CBOC.

  • The Nurse Manager supports the professional standards of the disciplines within the teams through the following activities:

        - Supervising and evaluating day-to-day activities and performance of nursing, other professional, and ancillary support staff assigned to the clinics.

        - Planning and managing clinic staff to meet patient care needs, achieve cost-effective clinic operations, and meet productivity goals.

        - Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to continuously improve productivity, efficiency, customer satisfaction, and patient care outcomes.

  • The Nurse Manager will be responsible for facilitating teamwork to accomplish quality of care, productivity/efficiency, clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction goals and objectives.
  • The Nurse Manager will cross train in other positions and duties, i.e. scheduling and staff nurse responsibilities at the Sioux City CBOC. 
  • MSN preferred.
  • Five (5) years of clinical experience (2-3 years of nurse management experience) preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE:  Days, M-F.  Nights, Weekends, and Holidays may be required. 

NOTE:  Assignment to other areas of the service line, medical center, or other CBOC's may be required which would involve travel to those sites; off tour supervisory coverage may be required; flexibility in tours and days of week will be required.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Must be a citizen of the United States.
  • Graduate of a School of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies:  The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), at the time the program was completed by the applicant.  (Unofficial transcripts required).
  • Possess and maintain a current, full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
  • English Language Proficiency.  RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d).

GRADE DETERMINATIONS:

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.   Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance, education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research.
