This Dental Officer position is with the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC), Office of Quality and Data (OQD), Quality Branch located in Rockville, MD. 

The successful applicant will serve as a Dental Advisor to the Branch Chief, Office Director, and Bureau developing and implementing activities to improve the quality of oral health and primary care services provided by health centers throughout the nation.

As a Dental Officer, GS-680-14, with the Bureau of Primary Health Care duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serving as a advisor to leadership, staff, and health center program stakeholders on state-of-the-art dental health care;
  • Assisting in the development and monitoring of dental services in health centers;
  • Planning and developing dental guidance based on a thorough evaluation of legislative mandates;
  • Reviewing, analyzing and commenting on Federal regulations, policies and guidelines relating to primary care and oral health services;
  • Promoting the development and implementation of quality improvement programs provided by health centers;
  • Serving as resource advisor on malpractice issues and issues pertaining to recruitment and retention activities for oral health.

Basic Requirements
All applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements*:

Education: Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S.) or dental medicine (D.M.D.) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education, American Dental Association (ADA); or other dental school, provided the education and knowledge acquired was substantially equivalent to that of graduates from an ADA-approved school.

Licensure: Applicants must be currently licensed to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico.

Minimum Qualifications

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, all applicants must meet the Minimum Qualifications (GS-14):

Possess at least one year of professional dentistry experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 grade level in the Federal Service (experience may have been gained outside the federal government) developing and/or interpreting guidance on program planning or evaluation; monitoring, analyzing and making recommendations on clinical effectiveness regarding health care programs; and, interpreting and providing professional comment and/or guidance on regulations, policies and guidelines pertaining to primary care service delivery (e.g., federal or state guidelines, proposed legislation, etc.).

Unless otherwise stated: (1) unofficial transcripts are acceptable, or (2) a signed and dated copy of your dental degree. All materials must be submitted by the closing date of the announcement.

LICENSURE DOCUMENTATION: You MUST submit a copy of your current and valid dentistry license.
