The incumbent performs the full range of work in the maintenance and repair of buildings and grounds consisting of two buildings on the Hines VA Campus. The incumbent provides a variety of maintenance and carpentry services including; overhaul, plumbing, painting, installation and troubleshooting in the Service and Distribution Center (SDC). The incumbent serves as a resident expert of the facility and may act on the behalf of and advise Contracting Officer's Representatives (CORs) on contracts and/or purchase orders for services. The incumbent replaces piping, valves, sump pumps, and bathroom fixtures. The position requires loading new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. The incumbent performs daily preventative maintenance checks/inspections and necessary repairs to all equipment including, battery operated warehouse carts, forklifts, air conditioners, generators, electric motors and electric pumps. Additionally, you will be required to troubleshoot and repair industrial water distribution systems, storm and sanitary sewer systems. The incumbent will accomplish most types of carpentry work from simple to moderate complexity. Examples include: Repair/replace doors, locks, perform ceiling and roof repair. This position requires brick, stucco and other masonry repair for buildings, structures, and fences. You will also be required to determine modifications needed using Depot Maintenance Work Requirements (DMWR), Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), Maintenance Bulletins (MB) and/or blueprints and diagrams to repair equipment. The incumbent for this position will work with minimal supervision nor instruction. Perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The incumbent works on benches and/or at work-sites. Work may be located on ladders, scaffolds, etc. requiring overhead work in stretched, cramped or awkward positions. The incumbent will operate a variety of hand and power tools and equipment and is often required to lift and carry moderately heavy or awkwardly shaped items, such as lumber, tool boxes and heavy machinery normally not in excess of 50 pounds. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity. May work in cramped and awkward positions, reaches, bends, lifts while using tools, parts, and/or equipment. The work requires some physical exertion, also including long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.
