The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI (http://www.madison.va.gov/) is an 87-bed acute care facility which provides tertiary medical, surgical, neurological, and psychiatric care, and a full range of outpatient services. This facility serves 130,000 Veterans who live in 15 counties in south-central Wisconsin and in five counties in northwestern Illinois. The Madison VAMC is also the specialty care referral center for an additional 57,000 Veterans who reside in the Tomah VAMC primary service area, is affiliated with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and is physically connected to the University of Wisconsin Clinical Science Center which includes the UW Hospitals and Clinics, and supports a Vet Center in Madison. Madison VAMC is responsible for community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) at Janesville, Baraboo, Beaver Dam, WI, and Rockford and Freeport, IL and a primary care annex at Madison West Clinic, and is one of seven facilities that comprise Veterans Integrated Services Network 12 (VISN12) which is administratively headquartered at Hines, IL, and includes facilities in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
This position is located in Logistics, Supply Chain Management Service at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital, Madison, WI. The primary purpose of the position is to ensure supplies and materials are distributed to all areas serviced by Logistics. The incumbent will lead 3 or more employees in the distribution area to provide wards, clinics, operating rooms, secondary storage locations, and other hospital facilities with supplies and materials.

-Ensures timely and proper distribution of supplies and materials in assigned areas to include sterile and non-sterile medical supplies, instrument sets, and equipment.
-Maintains stock levels, returns reusable supplies to the distribution area.
-Monitors expiration dates, rotating stock to limit outdates and removing items from use required by outdates.
-Receives supplies including unpacking, uncrating from shipping cartons and storing items to ensure sterility and integrity of the supplies and material.
-Informs personnel on new or changed items and supplies, current medical supply resources and shelf life.
-Distributes and balances the workload among employees with established workflow.
-Gives on the job training to new employees.
-Checks on work in progress and/or spot checks work not requiring review.
-Reviews completed work to see that instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.
-Resolves supply management issues including receiving requests, clarifying user requirements, explains delays, expedites deliveries, etc.
-Utilizes knowledge of stock rotation, hazard alerts and recalls to ensure outdated or otherwise compromised supplies and material are removed from usage area.
-Coordinates work activities to resolve operating issues pertaining to clinical and administrative supply management requirements.
-Handles conflict and problems in dealing with customers.
-Reports to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems or issues.
-Utilizes the automated point of use inventory system (Omnicell or similar), as well as the parent inventory system to monitor issues and receipts in support of stock replenishment processes.
-Enters information using the generic inventory package and validates the data.
-Performs daily inventory of primary and secondary inventory points using bar code equipment and following the predetermined schedule.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
